We were very lucky to have Laetitia Sonami, who has pioneered performance with new electronic instruments, perform the UK premiere of a piece written for her – OCCAM IX – by the legendary, pioneering composer Éliane Radigue at Goldsmiths this week in the new SIML space.
What people might not know is that Laetitia’s instrument, the Electronic Spring Spyre, is powered by RAPID MIX technologies – namely the Wekinator, developed by Goldsmiths researcher and RAPID MIX team member Rebecca Fiebrink. RAPID MIX is a new EU project that brings together Goldsmiths, UPF, IRCAM and a series of SME’s to accelerate the movement of technologies from lab to stage and studio. It was an honour to see novel technologies used expressively in the hands of a true performer, something made possible by the talents of the composer and performer and the richness of the technology itself.
We’ll keep you updated about more of the creative uses and possibilities of MIX technologies over at the RAPID MIX website.
